Bubba Watson Wins The Masters And Doing It Sober

  • 4/13/14  4:00pm

Bubba Watson fired a 3-under 69 at Augusta on Sunday, closing out the 78th Masters and grabbing his second green jacket in three years in dominant fashion, besting Jordan Spieth and Jonas Blixt by three strokes.

Spieth had all the momentum heading into the final round. Having shot a 2-under 70 on Saturday to grab a share of the 54-hole Masters lead with a struggling Watson, Spieth looked poised to break Tiger Woods' record as the youngest ever Masters champion at just 20 years old, but Spieth couldn't keep up with a resurgent Watson.

The turning point came right before the turn on Sunday. Spieth had built himself a two-shot lead through seven holes, but bogeyed the par-5 8th and the par-4 9th, while Watson carded a pair of birdies for a combined four-shot swing. He never looked back. Bubba Watson is hitting full stride with his golf and his sobriety.
